The psychologists
Tomasz and I are lucky enough to have a few friends who are psychologists, some who study psychology at university and others who gain their thoughts about human nature through everyday observations and knowledge acquired in books. We enjoy conversations and drinking wine by the fire until the early hours of the morning.
And so it was, one stormy night last year, that one of our friends told us he planned to travel to Norway to work as a psychologist. I’m learning the language already, he says, so that in Norway I can practice psychology. Well, said a second psychologist, how do you propose to help people if you don’t even know about the nature of the society they come from?
Every society has different values you know. It’s difficult to help a person if you don’t know the environment in which they grew up. Oh, no, protests the first psychologist... And so it went on, long into the night...
